If you've watched demolition work, you've probably seen a popcorn bucket without knowing the name. It's a hydraulic attachment for excavators used to crush concrete. Heavy steel tines press together, and the concrete pops apart under pressure—separating from the rebar into pieces small enough to handle and recycle.
That rebar separation is the whole point. Concrete without rebar goes to a recycler at a much lower disposal cost. Concrete with rebar sticking out costs more to get rid of, and manual sorting is slow and dangerous.
